Part of Something Good

“Love is not patronizing and charity isn't about pity, it is about love. Charity and love are the same -- with charity you give love, so don't just give money but reach out your hand instead.”
― Mother Teresa

We are happy to share this letter from Dr. Ronelo Al K. Firmo, the Schools Division Superintendent of DepED Region VII (Eastern Visayas) Leyte Division.

Christmas Share-the-Love Events

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17

Here are some share-the-love events for the past few days wherein we distributed clothing, shoes, school supplies, candies, and toys. Barangay Apas is dear to us since this is the base of our operations and this is where it all began for Bright Start.

December 2014 Give Books - Give Love

In short, the Christmas spirit is the Christ spirit, that makes our hearts glow in brotherly love and friendship and prompts us to kind deeds of service. ~ David Mckay

In-kind donations such as clothing and toys are mainly distributed to the students of day care centers of Barangay Apas, Cebu City and SPED students of Lahug Elementary School, Cebu City. We have also done share-the-love events like feeding programs in other cities and towns like in Sta. Fe (Cebu), Baybay (Leyte), and Las Piñas (Manila). Furthermore, since we also support other organizations like orphanages and SPED schools, we also share to them donations that were given to us.

Bright Start Hero Launches Operation Webster

“Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.” ~ Maya Angelou

What better way to celebrate your birthday than to launch an outreach project for the children? One of our Bright Start Heroes, Wella Crowder (Virginia, USA), did just that!

Project Sunshine: A Year That Was

"God will make a way when there seems to be no way." ~ Don Moen

Today November 8, 2014, we commemorate the anniversary of typhoon Yolanda. We say a prayer for those who perished, for those who lost their loved ones, for those who lost their homes and schools, and for survivors who continue to rebuild their communities.

We take a look back at Project Sunshine. This was our special project for one of the most vulnerable population whenever natural disasters strike --- the children.

Project Sunshine Update #23: Revisiting Medellin

“A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal.” ― Steve Maraboli

Through the efforts of our volunteers, the family of Margie and Carlos Librero, the students of Canhabagat Day Care Center and Don Virgilio Day Care received crayons, pencils, toys and clothing donated by Bright Start Heroes --- Rizzy Montecillo and family (New York), Lyra Malapitan and family (Edmonton, Canada), and Green family (Texas).

Keeping Promises

Last August 29, 2014, we visited Lahug Elementary School (SPED) and did the first set of occupational therapy (OT) assessments. This would provide the SPED teacher with information and concrete suggestions on the students' visual-motor and handwriting skills. We also distributed toiletries as part of promoting Life Skills (Grooming) to the students. We would like to thank the donors, Jeanette and Lee Go. You've made a lot of children smile!
